UPDATE: Man Struck and Killed By Train in Long Branch
Long Branch Police say death is probable suicide
A man has been struck and killed by a train near Branchport Avenue in Long Branch on Monday afternoon.
Long Branch Police Capt. Jason Roebuck said it "appears to be a suicide," but that NJ Transit should be handling the investigation because it occurred on their property.
A NJ Transit spokeswoman said New York Bound North Jersey Coast Line struck an adult male around 3:06 p.m. between the grade crossings of Joline Avenue and Branchport Avenue.
The spokeswoman said the crossing gates were down when the man was struck.
She said there were 35 passengers aboard the train and that there were no injuries reported to them or any NJ Transit crew.
She said the incident is still under investigation, but that the man's identity could be released today.
NJ Transit states that rail traffic is running normally again Tuesday morning. Rail traffic was suspended in both directions between Long Branch and Little Silver for several hours on Monday afternoon.
This is a breaking news story and it will be updated as soon as more details are available.

Such a shame that a person would do this and cause such anguish and pain to the innocent train conductor.

Ok this was probably suicide but, have you ever noticed the number of individuals killed by trains? Think about it, a train is a BIG thing; not easy to hide. It makes lots of noise, the ground shakes before it approaches; there are strobe lights & horns, how could one miss a train! I’m willing to bet that more people here at the shore are killed by trains than guns.

Honestly.. Trains should be banned! Enough is Enough! Trains kill! If it saves JUST ONE PERSON we should ban the scary looking double-decker trains and any other scary looking trains out there! Where are the 'Million Moms Against Trains'?

Tragic. If it was suicide, we need to be made aware of which, if any, prescription drugs he was on. More and more young people feel overwhelmed and then seek help. But instead of therapy, many opt for the quick fix of drug therapy. Alarmingly, many of these drug worsen the very symptoms they are purported to treat.
