More Than 15,000 Without Power As Storm Blows Through; 1,000 in Lacey
JCP&L Working to Restore Electricity; National Weather Service Had Issued Storm Alert
Tens of thousands are without power after a storm blew through Monmouth and Ocean counties Saturday.
A half-hour storm just blew threw Ocean County and parts of Monmouth, and Jersey Central Power and Light says it hopes to have power restored by 3 p.m.
The storm threat was issued for primarily northern Ocean and Monmouth counties.
“We have 27,000 people in Ocean County who have been affected by the outage,” said Stan Prater, Area Manager for JCP&L.
Prater explained that the towns hardest hit by the storm were Lacey, with 1,000 customers experiencing a power loss, Brick, which had 5,000 customers without electricity, Lakewood, with a total of 5,400 without power, and most especially, Toms River, which saw 11,500 who lost electricity.
The outages affected traffic lights throughout the area, causing traffic backups on Route 70, residents reported.
“We are doing our assessments now, for the storm which just passed through,” said Prater.
Prater could not give a timetable for when power would be restored to all residents in the region at this time, and commented that this storm differed from the one on Thursday evening, which affected more citizens throughout the state. The impact of this storm, Prater indicated, was more isolated to Ocean County.
For updates and a power outage map updated in real-time, please visit JCP&L’s website for more information on your area.

No problem in the Cedarwood Park section yet. Bought a generator a year ago and haven't had to use it yet. So far this section has been very lucky with each storm.

OK in East Dover ( By Yellowbank & Fisher ) so far, if lightning strikes in Newark we usually loose power ( underground wiring ) here ! The least flash and boom we loose , 16 hrs last storm and about 12 hrs the one before.....Hang in there capacitors and stay energized for once !!!! Look cross-eyed at these wireless poles and the power is out !

Here in Ortley Beach the storm was not very serious, but we lost power about 20 minutes prior the storms arrival. Seems like this happens on a regular basis, anyone no why this is happening?

Isn't it ridiculous? I can remember years ago power going out whenever we had a storm and now years later with all this modern technology, we lose power more than ever...and if youl live in Toms River, you get those 1 minute outages for no reason, but just long enough that you have to reset every clock in the house!

The storms weren't bad here in the Herbertsville section of Brick. Some thunder and lightning but mostly torrrential downpours. We did lost power for about a half hour. I was surprised it came back on so quicly as I thought we were in for the long haul.

Here in Silver Ridge Park, in the wrinkled villages, we had two periods of heavy rain. One about noon with thunder and later around 3:00 p.m. with no thunder but strong winds. The lights went out for a split second, enough to knock off my microwave and satellite dish but nothing else. At least my hanging basket ferns got watered but good! Waiting for the cool weather of October, hate hot and humid. Ugh

I haven't been to the community pool in a week. My tan is fading! ;-)
I'm so tired of cloudy, humid, 90 degree weather with the daily downpours. I feel like I'm living in the rainforests!

Climate change brings more extreme weather, not just warmer on average...
More violent storms, droughts, tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards...
But some of you will vote for Romney because the Party of No opposes all that.

Moisture from these recent thunderstorms do little for dry soil, just runs off into the bay as compared to a nice slow steady 24 hour rainfall. Great for a green crabgrass infested lawn though.. Other than that, work outside and your tan will be just fine and the snowblower I bought last year was never even fired up.

At least in Bayville, JCP&L has third world equipment. Power goes out for no reason. Gotta have a generator, be self sufficient. You cannot depend on them
