Monmouth County Officials to Discuss JCP&L Storm Response at Tinton Falls Summit
Mayors and officials from all Monmouth County towns invited to attend
Officials from across Monmouth County will attend the third annual Snow Summit in Tinton Falls to discuss Jersey Central Power & Light's (JCP&L) response to Hurricane Sandy.
Several officials, including Tinton Falls Mayor Michael Skudera and Long Branch Mayor Adam Schneider have been critical of JCP&L's communication during Hurricane Sandy and Hurricane Irene.
The summit will be held at noon Monday, Nov. 19 at Tinton Falls Borough Hall and will be lead by Skudera and Middletown Mayor Tony Fiore.
"In the past, these Snow Summits have provided towns in Monmouth County with a forum for improved shared services, access to better technology, and ways to improve winter cleanup efforts," a release from Skudera said.
Skudera said he called the first snow summit after the blizzard of 2010 to both seek and share ways in which to improve municipal services to the residents.
“Despite any changes JCP&L may have implemented from Hurricane Irene, they once again failed each municipality and each customer they serve,” Fiore said. “This forum will allow each mayor in our area to share their experiences and come up with a comprehensive list of changes that we believe should be implemented to avoid another failed restoration response."
Skudera agreed and said more changes need to be made by JCP&L.
“JCP&L needs to greatly improve, let’s unite as mayors and tell them how," Skudera said. “This was a huge storm but JCP&L needs to communicate better with the municipalities and the customers that they serve and take proactive measures to improve their overall level of service.”

Fwiw, the mayors of these towns, especially Tinton Falls, should be taking a good hard look at what most of the major damage to the utilities was caused by.
I happen to live in one of the oldest sections of TF (My manhole covers are stamped "New Shrewsbury", so do the math) and most of the damage in our neighborhood was caused by 40+ year old trees growing right ON the curbline breaking/taking down wires and poles. There needs to be some new/more strict regulations put in place to improve the setback that any new trees are allowed to be placed near wires/curbline and a better attempt at keeping the current trees growing over/through/inbetween the powerlines actually trimmed back to a manageable distance from said lines.
Yes, it's all well and good to live in an older neighborhood where the streets weren't named for the trees that were clear-cut, but common sense needs to be applied here to help prevent the total devastation of our aging utilities in the name of aesthetics and have every pole on your street snapped (yet again) because someone's 20 year old sycamore tree 15 feet from the curb fell over onto the wires..

exactly what I told the mayor in several e mails. The trees have to be trimmed or cut down. They cause more problems than they are worth to the town. Lets be smart people so then you dont have to complain we dont have power.

Tinton Falls did the best they could to clean up the mess but the trees and telephone polls were the problems.

Jcpl cut some trees but needs to do much more. This needs to be done by jcpl You don't want town workers cutting branches next to live wires that is for the utility companies

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE OUT OF STATE POWER COMPANIES THAT CAME UP TO HELP . FLORIDA ,OHIO, ALABAMA . REALLY IN A SITUATION SUCH AS THIS I THINK JCPL AND OTHERS REALLY DID THE BEST THEY COULD. THIS WAS SO BAD. I AM A TINTON FALLS RESIDENT AND WANT TO THANK ALL FOR THEIR EFFORTS . I FEEL SO BLESSED JUST TO BE HERE AFTER WHAT WE ALL HAVE BEEN THROUGH.
