UPDATE: Gas Leak At Long Branch Sewerage Authority Sealed

Police have now reopened the area

A major gas leak at the Long Branch Sewerage Authority on Joline Avenue on Monday afternoon has been sealed by crews.

Long Branch Police Capt. Jason Roebuck said the gas was coming from a main at the building at 150 Joline Avenue.

Roebuck said residents in the area around the Long Branch Sewerage Authority had been evacuated, but that the area has now been reopened and that residents have returned. No injuries have been reported at this time.

New Jersey Natural Gas was called to turn the gas off in the area and did so within an hour of the initial report.
