The Long Branch Middle School Anti-Bullying Crew is taking its act on the road as they will visit the White House this weekend.
The group was invited by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama to tour the White House because of their anti-bullying efforts over the past few months.
Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and his staff who have been major supporters of the group will accompany them on their tour of the nation’s capital.
TV broadcasting and media teacher Kristen Catrambone said the students were moved by the suicide of Rutgers freshman, Tyler Clementi, was believed to be the victim of bullying because of his possible sexual orientation, and their own personal encounters with bullying.
The crew used the beat of the song “I Like It,” by Enrique Iglesias and changed the lyrics to tell the story of a girl who is being bullied at school, and have now become a Youtube sensation. They crew has been interviewed by various news outlets and Iglesias himself mentioned the song on his Facebook and Twitter pages.
On March 10, the crew accepted an invitation by Senator Menendez to tour the US Capitol and Senate buildings during President Obama’s Bullying Conference, which was held at the White House.
