Get Ready for the Super Bowl With a Pet Rock

Some enterprising kids in Tinton Falls have found a niche for their hand crafted Giants gear.

Our pal TJ Brustowicz, whose Shore Flicks runs all the outdoor movies we enjoy in the area each summer, sent Patch a tip that sales have been heating up for pet rocks with the Giants emblem painted on top in a certain Tinton Falls neighborhood.

He tells us his kids -- Jack and Abby -- have been settting up shop in front of their house over the last few weekends to sell their decorated rocks and business, he tell us, has been brisk.

Brustowicz writes in an e-mail:  "They had made up signs, and as cars drove by they were yelling out 'Pet rocks for sale, 25 cents a pet rock!'  I cracked up and let them roll with their little venture.  After about an hour out there they had made 5 bucks.  They set up shop again the next weekend, and raised their prices.  The last couple of weeks they were selling hot chocolate, too.  Over the last four weekends they have made close to a $100!  Rocks decorated with the NY Giants logo have been big sellers, to say the least."

We hear they'll back out on Riverdale Avenue West this weekend if you need any last minute Giants souveniers.

I love this story. My kids once made a bunch of money giving away lemonade at their stand in front of my house. Apparently free lemonade from concentrate inspires big tips.

I've purchased a few of these pet rocks 2 weeks ago, including the one with the Giants logo, and I can attest that these pet rocks are of superior quality!

Where are they getting all of these rocks? I've noticed that lately my rock garde is getting a little low....lol

Thanks to the internet, grandma and grandpa traveling in NC can read all about it.
Grandpa is the wholesaler for the rocks which the Abby and Jack collect at his house.
In fact we will be delivering two painted rocks to customers in FL. I love my enterprising grandchildren.

Those lucky Giants rocks paid off! Thanks Patch for the write-up. Several folks who stopped by to get a pet rock and some hot chocolate mentioned seeing this article. Thanks for supporting the kids and their little entrepreneurial venture!

As the mother of someone who has sat outside our house trying to sell painted shells, I saw the need to help out some fellow entrepreneurs! I encourage others to share what's going on outside their house or in their neighborhood on Patch.
