Pedestrian, 52, suffered traumatic injuries, police said.

An Eatontown woman struck while crossing Route 35 suffered traumatic injuries after midnight Thursday, in an incident police said remains under investigation.

Eatontown police reported Jean Joseph, 21, of Neptune was driving a 1996 Nissan Pathfinder northbound on Route 35 as Linda Lamarca, 52, of Eatontown, was crossing north of Wyckoff Road around 12:25 a.m. Thursday.

Police arrived to find Lamarca had been struck by the vehicle, and was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center for traumatic injuries, police said. Eatontown First Aid responded.

Ptl. Matthew Bailey was the initial investigating officer. Ptl. Anthony Guido of the Eatontown Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau responded to the scene and is conducting the follow-up investigation. Monmouth County Serious Crash Analysis Response Team also assisted.

The incident remains under investigation, police said Friday.

I would think that any injuries received when hit by a car are certainly "traumatic!" There has to be a better way to describe this woman's injuries. Bad choice of words for sure. Doesn't traumatic describe a feeling, and not a physical injury? Just one person's opinion!

Traumatic does define a physical injury, and in this case, it was also the wording used by the Eatontown Police.. It can also mean mental shock or pain.
