Eatontown Planning Board Approves Quick Check and Gas Station For Route 35
Convenience store and gas station will be located at site of vacant Sands Motor Lodge.
The Eatontown Planning Board has approved the construction of a Quick Check convenience store and gas station for Route 35 North in the borough.
The store and gas station will be located at the site of the Sands Motor Lodge, which has been vacant for several years. The site rests between Public Storage and Capitol Lighting and across the street from Houlihans on Route 35.
"There was a need for it and I think it's a nice fit for Eatontown," Eatontown Mayor Gerald Tarantolo said today. "It will be a great ratable for the borough."
Tarantolo said the application consisted of about two hours of testimony and that it was unanimously approved by the board.
Tarantolo said it will be a 24-hour facility and could employee between 50-60 people.
The Sands Motor Lodge will be demolished in the near future to make way for Quick Check, but Tarantolo said he was not sure when that would take place.

Good news for Eatontown. The Sands Motel has been an eyesore for years on the major hwy through the Borough.

Great, just what Rt 35 needs - another gas station and chain store. There are two already going north that are just south of that area. Granted they are in Ocean Township. Just saying.....

My concern is what are they going to to with the quick chek only a mile down the road on Wykcoff (across from Toys R US, behind Exxon) Will that be closing and become an eyesore for years now?

Nuno, as far as I know, there are no plans to close that Quick Chek at this time.

They should do something with the gas station,Quick Chek and the liquor store...it is so ugly, shabby I hate when I drive past there...plus the cars coming out of the gas station the wrong way is a nightmare...and with the empty lots behind the liquor store I bet that corner could be made much more attractive and safe...shame on business owners who make money off the people in the area and don't care about the visual or our safety.

They are usually independently owned so that one will remain open. In Woodbridge there are 2 not but 2 blocks from each other. They are owned by different people and they both stay in business.

Donna C. - Quick Cheks are not independently owned. They are all owned by the Durling family. They are building a new gas/store on 36 in Highlands 2 doors down from their old store. The old store will close when the gas station opens. This is typical of all of their new gas stations.

Great News!!! The businesses on Industrial Way desperately needed a local gas station on the north bound lane of Rt35. The Sands motel has been an eye sore for years ...Kudos to Mayor Tarantolo and planning board!!!

Yes Thanks So Much Mayor Tarantolo and the planning board ...convenience store and gas is more practical for the town. And much better then more empty retail stores or empty office spaces....
