Eatontown Looking To Reconfigure Wall Street, Parker Road Intersection

Officials hope for grant money to help pay for improvements

It appears that changes are coming to the intersection of Parker Road and Wall Street in Eatontown.

During Wednesday night's Eatontown Council meeting, Borough Engineer David Marks said changes are coming to the LGR complex, which houses Fortunoff and Macy's Furniture, which will be expanding its parking lot.

The portion of Wall Street between the LGR Complex and the large shopping center that houses Best Buy was recently vacated by the borough. Half of the street belongs to the LGR Complex and the other half belongs to Best Buy.

Marks said the intersection is in need of serious redesign now that the changes are coming.

"We have worked out some concepts, but we need to get traffic counts and then we can bring (the council) some alternative designs," Marks said.

Once LGR's changes are made, the intersection will have four roads, Wall Street, Parker Road, the newer extension of Wall Street that takes drivers to Route 35 and Best Buy access road.

"We would like to change it to more of a T-shape with four stops," Marks said.

He said there is also a possibility of removing the Best Buy access road.

He added that the borough applied for a New Jersey Department of Transportation grant in September to help pay some of the costs of any new configuration.

A resolution will be created and likely passed at the next council meeting that will allow Marks' engineering firm, T&M, to perform a traffic study of the intersection and begin creating some concepts for a new design.

How about extending Wall street out to Route 36 so people don't have to use a parking lot as a thoroughfare to get to Wall St. or Parker. (The state screwed that one up when they "made the 35/36 intersection better".)

I agree with Brian. A right hand turn lane from 36 to Wall Street would eliminate dumping traffic into a parking lot where mothers and expected mothers are loading their purchases in front of Babies R Us. The Wall Street extension fixed one problem, but not having access from 36 to Wall Street is a little crazy.

Go to Rt. 35 south, take the u-turn near the mall (where Joe's Crab Scack is), Wall Street is after White Castle. It is quicker than going thru the parking lot.
