Eatontown Firm Owners Face 20 Years in Prison in Mail Fraud Scheme

A divorced couple from Toms River face up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty Wednesday to federal conspiracy charges.

Joseph Bisogno, 49, and Kathleen Bisogno, 52, admitted defrauding clients of their firm, KA Mailers LLC of Eatontown, by dumping large amounts of mail rather than posting it, U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman said in a release.

KA Mailers handled large mailings for clients who contracted with them to complete folding, envelope stuffing, labeling and delivery to the post office, Fishman said. The firm charged a fee based on the the amount of postage needed for the job as well as for services rendered in preparing mail for delivery.

However, the Bisognos would not always hold up their end of the arrangement. The pair admitted discarding some mail and creating bogus postal forms to give clients the impression their orders were completed.

The fraud, lasting from September 2005 to March 2011, resulted in losses of $500,000 for 55 victims, Fishman said.

Both Bisognos face up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine when they're sentenced on Sept. 14.
