Broadway Landmark Closed For Repairs
Fountain surface being replaced for safety reasons.
The fountain at the corner of North Broadway and South Broadway in Long Branch will be closed for a few weeks for repairs.
The fountain is a popular play area for children because of streams of water that shoot up from its surface.
The non-slip surface of the fountain is failing and needs to be replaced.
"It's too dangerous in its present condition to turn on the water," a notice on the city' web site states.
The city said is currently looking into repairing it and that the project should be completed "in the next few weeks."
No work had begun at the site as of Tuesday, July 24.

Like all of the other work done in LB, it is falling apart. From the lamposts to the railings, from the oak trees to the Great Lawn , its all shoddy matierial. Whether due to lack of planning, or giving the work to connections, its a shame. So much money spent, and it all fails within 10 years or less. Does Council think abouyt the durability of a product before signing the check?

this fountain is HARDLY a long branch or broadway landmark! it is a blot on the city. if it is supposed to be so great - put it in pier village!

Betty, I did not mean landmark in terms of it being a huge attraction, I meant landmark as in an object or feature of a landscape or town.
