This all sounds fishy, I have never heard of the Army training in a populated civilian city, especially on Monday night, I can't sleep with all this noise, this is insane!

At not quite 10:30 pm, Ocean Boulevard and West End, I've heard about two dozen helicopters and one "loud bang." No simulated weapons fire so far.

Note that they don't tell us *how long* after midnight this will continue...Anybody have a clue what it is they're doing? Training for what?

Smells like lies to me. I agree w/ bobsmith. Why aren't they utilizing Fort Monmouth? No one is there. Why Long Branch? Why conduct training in a civilian town and why is tonight the first time we're hearing this? If it is true training, why weren't we notified in advance? At least a day or 2 notice would have been appropriate. This country is going to he'll real quick. Good job with the notification Long Branch. I appreciate being woken up to grenades, gun fire and helicopters at 10pm. There was no "representative" around and I'm sure 911 was overwhelmed because no one knew what was going on. Everyone in my apartment complex was outside waiting to see the invasion of Pier Village. The city will be lucky if no one with a heart condition or PTSD sues them.

How about a reverse 911 call to notify all residents with in an ear shot of this crap? The helicopters sounded like aircraft with engine trouble as they approched at a very low altitude, we quickly relocated to ground level fearing that the next sound heard would be a crash and explosion. I am all in favor of preparation and drill, however I can see where this could have created quite a mess in terms of heart realted health issues, and residule 911 log jam. I'm thinking the folks orchestrating this thing need some public relation training to go along with the war games held above!

Suggest that anybody from Long Branch who has questions about last night's training exercise should ask them at the next council meeting on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 7:30PM in the city hall council chambers (344 Broadway, 2nd floor). Hopefully, someone from the Army will be there to answer everyone's questions, too. Also, we received a robo-call announcing these exercises were going to take place prior to them happening.

To do this on a Monday night when people have to get up for work and kids for school is crazy. I rec'd the warning phone call but as previously stated there was no number left to contact any representative. It sounded like they were landing in my backyard. Needless to say, not much sleep last night for someone who has to get up a 4:45 am for work.

Agreed they should have used the reverse 911 system. And i am totaly with the military training for whatever they need to why on a monday night why not a friday or saturday night?

I am a resident of West Long Branch and of course did not receive any advance notice. This morning is the first I found out what all that noise was last night. Once again our officials kept us well informed

Mark, I have now been in the military for 12 years. I know what protocols are supposed to happen with training and exercises and they did not occur last night. It's not about "supporting the troops" - it's about letting locals know that grenades, helicopters and gunfire are only training, especially in a residential area. I received no notification and was close enough to watch the training from my porch.

All these drills are to get you used to the military being in charge..then next drills will be to put you in "safe" areas behind barbed wire..little do people know this is just a trial to see what people will accept as normal..very soon you will be in concentration camps. If they do thinks little by little everyone will think it is for their own safety..Hey guys gon in that room and see if the gas chamber is working correctly for would be terrorist...you will be doing your country a great service...ooops the gas came on by itself.......SORRY

This was actually a test run by a joint commission of the Oceanport and West Long Police departments. Enlisting the US Army's help is their newest efforts in trying to catch the thieves who continue to burglarize our neighborhoods in broad daylight.

If you didn't get a call, maybe you need to register with the 911 reverse calling system to receive them. Not sure about that. One last word, some of you posting here are nuts.

Any LB resident can register their home and cell phone number on the LB Code Red notification system. I received two notification calls yesterday. One around 4 PM and another around 8 PM at both my home and on my cell phone. To register either go on the city's website or call city hall.

Sorry, Founding Father and Swift - I was merely making a joke on a serious matter about sheer amount of homes that continue to get burglarized within our local townships.

Our local police departments are keeping a lid on a HUGE problem right now. If any of you have not heard about this - ask one of your local police officers or friends of a police officer. The thieves that are robbing our homes are doing so in broad daylight and usually with an M.O. of taking a large object such as a propane tank from a BBQ grill and throwing it through a backdoor or window.

EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE A HOME ALARM ON AND SET at this point. Over 35 homes broken into in 3 months time = 1 house every 2 weeks. Why are our homes not safe?

Actually, it was quite exciting to watch the up close air manuevers,take offs and landings. Noise levels tailed off, allowing us to hit the sack before 11pm.,just a minor inconvenience.

My husband is career Air Force, I am extremely proud of him and the scarifices he has made for our family and countless other families. What civilians do not understand is that the military needs "real world" training. Riots, terrorism, war, anarchy and basic breakdown of society DOES NOT only occur during daylight hours. It DOES NOT only happen on training bases. Yes, one can train all they want in a simulated environment but nothing will prepare them for that real world issue. It's like any other job, the employees sometimes require hands on training. The blame here lies on the local government for not implementing the reverse 911 to all the residents and surrounding townships. Military exercises are happening every day, in different areas. It's not a conspiracy, it's not the Zombie Apocolypse. Being that the bases are now one joint base, you may have already seen and probably will see more of this throughout the area. We place the blame on the government, Obama, the military but stop for a minute and recognize that the rate of crime & violence is ever rising and rather quickly. Unfortunetly in hard economic times this seems to happen, however, hard economic times is no excuse for becoming violent, or becoming a thief. It's time to grow up and take responsibilty for our own actions. We're headed towards a Martial Law through our own fault, we've become animals making these sorts of exercises an unfortunate necessity.

That's the best comeback? Seriously? Grow up? And I'm sorry but at what point was I handing out scare tactics? This is my opinion, I am entitled to it and being a military wife and proud of my husband does not make me a "sheeple". And Fred, this being 2012...those calls can come to your cell phones, I've had it happen in my own town already.

This is training for the financial collapse plain and simple, its called riot control, and Marshal Law.. Why else is the military doing these exercises in residential areas? When the military has more than enough land to perform training on.. Anyone who lives in LongBranch get to that meeting at 6:30PM at Pier village... People need to stand up and kick this in the butt before it escalates.

I am very suprised that any of you in this area are actually thinking outside the box. Usually people in this area are so close minded and believe anything the government tells us. The illuminati is real and they want one government, one currency, one language, and only 500 million people throughout the world to prevent rebellion (think hunger games). Just be prepared sometime this year for a huge rebellion. Civilians will overthrow the government. Faith.

Cannabis 420, that is why the army are doing training exercises in residential areas, first to scare the residents to try to deter a revolution, and second to prepare for one. This is real. Especially for anyone concerned that armed forces are practicing outside your door. This activity of police involvement in military affairs is unconstitutional. This being beside the point. There is no need for war. War is for economic gain of few. Our liberties have been stripped away under the guise of "terrorism." Get ready to wake up in terror if you continue to allow this type of activity in your neighborhood. The government has the "authority" to arrest you and detain you with out visitation rights, or right to a lawyer or trial on the premise of a "belligerent act." the passing of NDAA is what allowed this week to happen. Smith Amash Amendment is what allows gov't to arrest anyone for little to no reason (hence camps set up) and NDAA 2013 will limit freedom of speech via web.

I called the governors office, under the constitution no federal agency has authority over the states, so the state of new jersey should know all about what when on this week, no one at the governors office knows, so they transfer me to the Adjutant Office ( state military) and spoke with Catherine Bendal, and she is not willing to tell me anything, so she transfers me to Joint Based Public Affairs Office, and the phone keeps ringing and ringing and no one picks up. Took 20 min to get that far, there number for Joint Based Public Affairs is 609-754-2572, I suggest people start calling and demanding answers.
