Mayor Skudera Updates Tinton Falls Residents on Hurricane Sandy Recovery Effort

Tinton Falls Mayor Michael Skudera e-mailed the following update on the borough to Patch to update residents on power outages, a nearby emergency response shelter and brush and recycling information:

Power Update

Earlier today, November 10th, there was a huge staging area of JCP&L trucks off Hance Avenue in Tinton Falls. Throughout the day, additional crews have been working in the community including on Sycamore Avenue and Shark River Road. Hopefully this is a good indicator that JCP&L will be on track with their Sunday projection of power being restored to the entire borough. There are still currently 1,083 residents without power in Tinton Falls; but hopefully this number will further decrease by the evening and into the next morning.

The Tinton Falls Office of Emergency Management (OEM) continues to answer calls and help the residents of Tinton Falls. If you need assistance please call 732-542-3400 ext. 555. As a reminder, the Calvary Chapel has setup an area in Borough Hall with food, blankets, coats, and other resources for the residents of Tinton Falls.

National Guard

The OEM setup an Emergency Response Shelter for the National Guard in neighboring Oceanport. The National Guard used this structure as an operations area for the Monmouth Park Shelter.

Our Emergency Response Shelter is an inflatable structure that measures 18 feet wide, by 23 feet long, and is 9 feet tall. It can be setup in about 5 minutes and is designed to protect its occupants from adverse weather conditions and provide a controlled environment in which to work.

I met with members of the National Guard today to thank them for their services. I was joined by my OEM Director John Mack and other members of the OEM team. The efforts to assist the National Guard were coordinated with the Oceanport Office of Emergency Management.

Brush and Recycling Information

The Department of Public Works continues to work hard today on cleanup efforts and will be working on Monday’s Holiday as well. I instructed Gary Gebele, the Director of Public Works to provide extra crews for this Thursday’s recycling pickup so residents whose collection was missed on Thursday, November 1st due to Hurricane Sandy, would be able to place excess materials out for pickup, even if their blue container is full.

If your collection was missed on Thursday, November 1st due to the storm, please place your container out this Thursday, November 15th. If your blue container is full, please place any excess recyclables in tied plastic bags alongside or atop of your blue container.

Continue to Put Brush Out

Additionally, after today, I have lifted the suspension of new curbside brush pickup. However, please continue to place your new brush or leaves above the curb line and on your property, not into the street. This will ensure that the roadways remain passable and safe.
