The Oakhurst First Aid Squad supported the Ocean Township High School Spartan Football Team this Saturday by sending our ambulances to their carwash!
It was a big job but we knew they could handle the job. Since the ambulances are specialty vehicles and oversized, they cannot go through commercial car washes. Due to lights, sirens and antennas, special care must be taken to the vehicles when washing. Veteran squad members were in attendance along with one of our newest squad explorer
cadet members, that is also a member of the football team.
Our First Aid Squad Explorer Cadet Program is comprised of many high school students from Ocean Township
High School. Most of these students are pursuing a career in health sciences or public service. They are schooled in CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation), first responder certification and when eligible, Emergency Medical Technician Certification. Many have gone on to join the Emergency Response Teams at the colleges they
attend. Of course, we take them back during summer break!
The Oakhurst First Aid Squad practices different skills each month to maintain the high level of quality care provided to the citizens of and visitors to Ocean Township Fire District No. 1. Our training sessions are open to
the area first aid squads and are often attended by members from West Long Branch, Wanamassa, Eatontown, Elberon and Tinton Falls First Aid Squads. By training together, we can be prepared for large scale events, such as Hurricane Irene, where we may have to provide care as a team. Learning together, makes working together much easier. This month we
practiced with our Tactical Response Team during the school active shooter response drill.
If you would like to become a member of your local first aid squad, most of them have websites, email addresses and Facebook pages. You can join the Oakhurst First Aid Squad by contacting us at OakhurstEMS.org or OakhurstEMS@aol.com. You can also find us on Facebook!
